It’s a proud day for Southampton.
It has been revealed that Southampton is one of eight areas under consideration to become the UK City of Culture in 2025.
It’s no secret that we’re championing the Southampton UK City of Culture 2025 bid. This was made quite clear a few months ago when Chaptr was chosen to design and deliver the website for the bid!
The bid is all about shining a spotlight on culture, and how a city will harness it to strengthen its area and aid recovery from the pandemic.
Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said: “Winning the UK City of Culture competition has a hugely positive impact on an area, driving investment, creating jobs, and highlighting that culture is for everyone, regardless of their background.
This year’s focus is on levelling up access to culture across the country and making sure there is a legacy that continues for generations to come. I look forward to seeing what this brilliant longlist has in store as they continue in the competition.”
We work with brands at the heart of culture in the UK and we’ve seen first-hand the devastating effects of a pandemic, with art galleries, theatres, museums, orchestras and independent cinemas (to name a few) all forced to close as a result.
We know so many of the wonderful people at Southampton working hard on this bid. We applaud them all for getting this far.
This is what Southampton needs and deserves.
The winner will be announced in spring 2022.
Fingers and toes crossed!
